After 40 years... January 6, 2017 By Happy Holidays (Rossville, GA) See All My Reviews "A dear friend gifted me with the Columbia Masterworks LP of this recording in early 1977 as an introduction to Bach's organ works. It was left as a gift on my porch in inclimate weather. Happily though the cover was drenched the record was quite unharmed. It gave me many hours of pleasure and continued to reach my mind with the ornate and near-mathematical pleasure that is Bach. Sadly Biggs passed away that same year. I had to forego owning a turntable for a while for various reasons. I found several budget performances of Bach's organ works on cassette by German and British organists but none compared with the sound of this organ, or Biggs pacing of the performance, which I grew to prefer above all others. I recently searched till finding this recording at Arkivmusic on CD; which is the most expedient format for my particular lifestyle. (Some of the LPs are now selling for over $200!). Quality of the CD and packaging it first rate. The mastering is excellent, the disc quality above any criticism. If you love Back and are enamored with Bigg's rendering of it, you can make no better choice than this disc for your collection." Report Abuse
Famous Organ Works. December 9, 2014 By hannelore m. (huntsville, AL) See All My Reviews "I own this CD on an LP, but I am not able to play it anymore due to non-available play back needle. I searched on-line for this title and found this CD. As a child I was able to attend 2 concerts at the Thomas Kirche in Leipzig were Bach played the organ in his time. Some thing like this is unforgettable. Thanks for carrying wonderful music." Report Abuse
