Notes and Editorial Reviews

Active in every genre other than opera, Carl Czerny is largely remembered for the numerous piano studies he wrote as pedagogical aids. Howard Shelley's advocacy of his three overlooked virtuoso works for piano and orchestra is a welcome reminder of this composer's greater appeal. Alongside the Piano Concerto in A minor Op.214 are two premiere recordings of his Piano Concerto in F major Op.28 and Rondo Brillant in B flat major Op.233.  Czerny was Liszt's Piano teacher June 29, 2017 By John Edelblute (Hartford, WI) See All My Reviews "Another great addition to Hyperion's Romantic Piano Series. I own the entire series and I manage to listen to one CD almost every day. Howard Shelly and the Tasmanian Symphony are as always excellent. The small booklet that comes with each of the CD'S is as always excellent reading. In this one it told how Franz Liszt moved into Czerny's home at the age of 10 to be instructed on the piano free of charge by Mr. Czerny. Wow! When you listen to Czerny's compositions, you can hear how a young Franz began to develop his skills. As I said earlier, I have the entire series from Hyperion. I hope that they continue to expand this series, as each new CD is a new treat. I recommend every CD in the series." Report Abuse
