Notes and Editorial Reviews
"This is a very fine performance of the Mahler Fifth. Compared to almost any other commercial recording, it has virtues that are immediately apparent: heartfelt sincerity of emotion, immaculately clean playing, and a well-bound sense of structure. Van Zweden, obviously an experienced Mahlerian, knows what he is about. The “tragic march” of the first movement has an appropriately dragging feeling, the second movement is played at just the right tempo(s), and the famed Adagietto is lyrical and exquisitely shaped."
