Amazing Christmas Extravaganza December 4, 2012
By James B. (Heber City, UT) See All My Reviews
"Each year the Mormon Tabernacle Choir does this amazing show in Salt Lake City. There are four concerts that play to a total of 80,000 people each year. The tickets are free but there are over a million requests for 80,000 tickets. Over the decade or so they've been doing this they've had a cavalcade of celebrities to complement the proceedings, incl. Bryn Terfel, Renee Fleming, Fredericka von Stade, Audra McDonald, and the list goes on. They've all been on PBS one year after the actual concert. I was fortunate to get a ticket for last year's presentation represented on this DVD. All I can say is that it was an amazing experience which is only partially captured in the video and audio releases. Every participant (save the guests) is a volunteer (incl. the orchestra) but the performance quality is extraordinary and the spirit of the occasion is palpable. I will acquire this DVD as I have the ones from the previous years. But if you ever have the chance to see it live -- do it !! It may be the best Christmas show in the land."
