Notes and Editorial Reviews

Sony Classical celebrates the 85th birthday of “the Stradivarius of singers” Leontyne Price

The Complete Collection of Song and Spiritual Albums begins with Leontyne Price’s first recording from 1954 as part of Columbia’s American Music series: the Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber, with the composer at the piano. The song recital albums which follow, demonstrate Price’s wide range of repertoire, including French and German works. From 1961 to 1970 Price recorded three albums of Spirituals, which are also included in this 12-CD set, as well as her musical album Right as the Rain, recorded in 1967 with Andre? Previn.
